The Cochin University of Science And Technology (CUSAT) has changed the admission procedure of CUSAT CAT 2020. The candidates will get admission on the basis of marks in class 12th.

CUSAT CAT Admission Process

The Cochin University of Science And Technology (CUSAT) has changed the admission procedure of CUSAT CAT 2020. The applicants will get admission to the five year integrated programmes of M.Sc in Photonics and M.Sc in Science and the course of B.Tech based on the marks they have scored in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/ Biology in class 12th/ PUC programmes.

The Cochin University of Science and Technology Common Admission Test, or CUSAT, is conducted every year to shortlist candidates for admission to the courses of Engineering, Humanities, Environmental Studies, Law, Medical Sciences and Technology, Marine Sciences, Social Sciences, Science, and Technology offered at the university. However, CUSAT CAT has been cancelled for the year 2020 due to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. Hence, CUSAT is following a new selection process for conducting admissions.

CUSAT CAT 2020 Revised Admission Process

The admission authority of Cochin University of Science and Technology has formulated a new CUSAT 2020 admission procedure on the basis of which aspirants will be admitted to the university. The new admission procedure of CUSAT CAT 2020 has been explained below.

  • The CUSAT rank list will be prepared by normalising class 12th marks.
  • The exam authority will use the standardization procedure published by the Commissioner of Entrance Examination (CEE), Government of Kerala for KEAM 2020.
  • For admission to B.Tech and M.Sc in Photonics (5 years), marks secured by the candidate in Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry will be taken into consideration for normalization.
  • For admission to the integrated course of M.Sc in Science (5 years), the consideration marks will be of the subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics/ Biology. If a candidate has both Maths and Biology, the subject in which he/ she has higher marks will be considered.

CUSAT CAT Tie Breaking Rule 2020

After the normalization of marks for CUSAT 2020 admissions, if two or more aspirants score the same marks then the authorities will use the tie-breaking rule. The tie-breaking rules of CUSAT CAT 2020 are listed here.

  • First, the marks obtained in Mathematics will be compared. The candidate who has higher marks in Mathematics will get preference.
  • If the tie continues, the marks scored in Physics will be compared.
  • In case the tie persists, the authorities will compare the marks obtained in Chemistry.
  • If the tie is still not resolved, then the combined marks of the subjects will be considered in the following order: Mathematics/ Biology and Physics, Mathematics/ Biology and Chemistry, Physics and Chemistry.
  • After that, if the tie continues,  then total marks obtained in the class 12th board exams will be taken into account.
  • In case the tie exists even after that, marks obtained in English will be considered to resolve it.
  • Further, if the tie persists, the candidate's date of birth will be considered for tie-breaking. Preference will be given to the one who is older in age.
  • After that, the alphabetical order of the candidates' names will be considered by the authorities for tie-breaking if the tie still exists.
