Deferred Admission Process Leads to Increase in Applications at Presidency University

Presidency University, Kolkata has postponed the admission tests for various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes from April 12 to May 13 from this academic year. This deferred admission process has helped in the increase in the number of applications by 25% as compared to 2017. The university authorities had to change the dates for the entrance test as the state was concerned with the fact that a large number of seats were lying vacant in 2017.

As per the records, the admission test for the UG admissions took place on 30 April in 2017. Due to this, many candidates could not take the test as many were busy preparing for the board examination. However, the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) authority, the conducting body of Presidency University Bachelor’s Degree Entrance Test - PUBDET stated that the number of applications has increased from 13,588 to 19,000 for UG courses and for PG courses it has gone up to 7,000 from 5,000.

The university has also made several changes in the admission criteria so that the applications increase. This will help university fill up all the vacant seats. WBJEE Board has also decided to conduct separate counseling session for both UG and PG candidates.

According to the sources, Presidency University will start classes immediately after the first round of counseling to fill up seats. However, the second round of counseling session will only be conducted if there are more vacancies. This will help the students who are interested in courses like engineering to opt out of the admission process.
