Delhi HC Justifies CBSE NEET UG Upper Age Limit Norms

Last week, the High Court of Delhi dismissed a series of pleas challenging the CBSE’s upper age limit of 25 years for general category and 30 years for reserved categories to apply for NEET-UG. However, the High Court termed CBSE’s decision to bar open school and private students from appearing to NEET as unconstitutional.

A bench of justices Chandra Sekhar and Sanjiv Khanna have validated CBSE’s norm on the upper age limit for NEET and struck down the norm that bars open school and private students from NEET.

The court further directed CBSE not to hold the results of NIOS, open school and private students. It urged them to announce their NEET results along with results of regular students.

This year, the national-level medical entrance test was conducted on May 06. Over 13 lakh students took NEET exam for the admission to MBBS,BDS and AYUSH courses. CBSE had taken enough measures for the smooth conduct of the exam without any hassles. Students and parents cooperated with the exam centre authorities for security check. AYUSH courses were the new inclusion in NEET this year. Until February 2018, there was no clarity whether AYUSH courses come under the ambit of NEET or not. Later, a clarification was given by Ministry of AYUSH and it directed all the states to ensure wide publicity in this regard. All the states have agreed to admit students into AYUSH courses on the basis of NEET merit.
