The Manipal Centre for European Studies (MCES) launched Erasmus Manipal Network (EMN) and Erasmus Information Office (EIO) on the occasion of Europe Day which was on 10th May 2019, Friday. The inauguration was done by Angela Brand, who is Dr. T.M. Pai Endowed CHair on Public Health Genomics and also the Founding Director of the Institute for Public Health Genomics at Maastricht University, the Netherlands.
Angela Brand appreciated the institute and said that the efforts of Manipal Academy of Higher Education in the establishment of the office were commendable. She added that in the past 30 years, the Erasmus programme of the European Union has been facilitating the mobility of students within Europe and also to other parts of the world.
The Erasmus programme of the European Union has thus created a new wave of internalisation of some institutions of higher education. India has been a beneficiary of all these initiatives and Angela Brand said that India should look forward to BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) countries for Erasmus projects in the coming years.
Manipal Centre for European Studies (MCES) celebrated Europe Day during which the Director of Prasanna School of Public Health of MAHE, Helmut Brand, addressed everyone and said that the EU is struggling between dealing with problems that are within and that are with the rest of the world. It is trying to make its presence with several governing structures at times having conflict. He also talked about the low level of awareness of European institutions and the upcoming parliamentary elections.
The EMN and EIO will be lead by Pranjali Kirloskar and Tejasvini Ahuja. The two gave brief presentations on the plans and objectives of the initiatives.
