Goa University to Introduce Ancient Indic System Courses

The Goa University will start offering higher education programmes in ancient Indian Knowledge systems like Jyotish Shastra and Vaastu Shastra soon. Students can pursue these courses and they can also choose to study the ancient Indian languages of Pali, Sanskrit, and Prakrit.

Jyotish Shastra is the system of astrology and Vaastu Shastra is the systems of architectural design the way they were practised in ancient India.

It is expected that the Goa University will start these courses from the academic session of 2019-2020. This makes it one of the rarest universities in India that offers higher education in the systems of Indic knowledge. Mridula Sinha, the Chancellor, approved the formation of four schools in the university on 5th April 2019. One of these four schools will be the School of Sanskrit and Indic Knowledge.

The heads of all colleges that are affiliated to the university have been apprised about the formation of new schools in the university via a circular that was issued recently.

Varun Sahni, the Vice-Chancellor of Goa University, had announced the opening of a Sanskrit and Indic knowledge school under the university in the convocation ceremony last year. The President, Mr. Ram Nath Kovind, was also present for that event.
