Goa University has been granted Rs. 20 crore under the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan 2.0. The grant will be helpful for the varsity to set up research labs and upgrade to scientific facilities.GU has been granted the same under the infrastructure grants (RUSA).
The funds will be utilised to set up research labs and to set up modern research facilities.
According to the reports, Goa University did not qualify for the funds under the research and innovation component of RUSA 2.0. However, the varsity got approval under the research lab facilities.
The project approval board supported the university and decided to grant the funds to the university on the basis of the research facility component. Apart from Goa University, all the North-eastern and the Himalayan States have been considered for the grant on the basis of the respective component.

In January 2016 Goa University received the first instalment of grants under the RUSA scheme and in November 2016 the varsity received the second instalment of Rs.58.85 lakh.
Varun Sahni, Vice-Chancellor GU earlier said that there was no reason under which the funding should be denied to the varsity under the RUSA 2.0 scheme. According to him, the varsity has a score of three and a half and above under NAAC accreditation which is considered as a good rating.

Goa University was established in the year 1985 and offers 33 undergraduate and 21 postgraduate programmes in various disciplines. Apart from these the university also offers certificate, diploma and doctoral courses.
