The hospital of Guwahati Medical College acquired a PET CT Scan machine. The hospital was constructed recently and consist of 200 beds. The hospital which treats cancer patients was inaugurated on August 18, 2016, by the Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal. Now, the patients will get best-in-class diagnostic treatment.
Addressing at the inaugural session, CM termed medicine as the noble profession through which one can serve mankind. The people who are associated with this profession should feel fortunate. The PET CT Scan machine will facilitate oncology treatment in the state. Previously, the patients of the state had to go abroad or to the other states for the better cancer treatment. With the introduction of PET-CT Scan, the patients will get the best treatment within the state.
He asserted that education and health are always priorities for the government. The government is working consistently to improve these two sectors. The first step towards the development of health sector is transforming Guwahati Medical College and Hospital to a National Institute of Excellence.
He pointed out that every year, nearly 25,000 cancer cases are detected. So, it is a challenge to the government to provide the best treatment and take steps to minimise cancer. Assam is the first state to introduce PET-CT Scan in a government hospital.
