IIM Shillong Plans to Set Up Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research and Analysis

Indian Institute of Management, Shillong has made a proposal for setting up Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research and Analysis. IIM Shillong wants to establish the centre in the memory of former President of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam who is an inspiration to many. The centre will play a significant role in working towards designing development models for horticulture, handloom, handicraft, logistics, business process outsourcing and tourism in the entire North East region.

Director of IIM Shillong, Mr. Amitabha De revealed that the new campus of the institute will have a 2,000 square meter building that will be named after the former President of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.

On the occasion of Kalam's 2nd death anniversary, IIM Shillong organised a series of lectures to celebrate his life. The event was attended by students from various educational institutes in the region. In the evening, students, as well as others, present lit candles to pay homage to Dr. Kalam.

As a part of lecture series, former ISRO Chairman, Mr. G. Madhavan Nair spoke on ‘Space & Society: The Indian Scenario'. He explained the history of human space endeavour and its progression. He recalled the significant contributions made by Dr. Kalam with respect to the same. He narrated the success story of the former President of India who was also the former Chairman of DRDO.

Mr. Nair also shared his experience of working with Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. He hailed the exceptional leadership qualities of Kalam.

Various institutes across the country paid a tribute of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam on July 27, 2017.
