IISc Bengaluru to Monitor Students Health

With the aim to assess the Mental and Physical health of students, the Indian Institute of Science - IISc Bengaluru has started a health survey in the institute. This is made mandatory for all the students studying in the institute. The survey will cover around 4,200 students studying in its 40 departments.

The Students’ Council Secretary of IISc, Veerendra Singh Rajawat told the media that all the students of IISc have to participate in the survey programme that has already been started. The counsellors will give a set of questionnaire to the students which the students have to fill. This will help to know the physical and mental health conditions to the students.

This will help the institute to assess if the students need any kind of assistance. Rajawat added that the questionnaire will include questions like if the student has any health problems or what sports and activities they indulge in to keep themselves fit.

A recent health survey done on few students has revealed concerning results in the institute about the health of the students. The decision of the survey has been taken after the alarming results surfaced in the previous report. Rajawat informed that the decision of re-doing the survey in the institute is to bring all the students under the health survey. The new survey includes some changes in the questionnaire to help the institute to understand the condition better.

The student council’s social media page has appealed to the students to take part voluntarily in the survey to address the problem. It hs also assured that the survey will be conducted at a personal level where the students’ identity will be kept private.

The appeal stated that even the survey is being conducted by the administration, it will be confidential. So, it is an appeal to the students to be true to themselves and also encourage other students around one to take part in it.
