The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has increased the fees for its postgraduate and research courses. The premier institute of technology has doubled the fees for students who sought admission in 2018-19 academic session. However, there will be no change in the fee structure for the students who are already enrolled in PG and research courses offered by the institute. The Institute of Eminence (IoE) status enabled IIT Delhi to hike fees for postgraduate and research courses.
IIT Delhi Director, Mr. Ramgopal Rao informed that the fees for these courses would be revised every year. The new fee structure will help IIT Delhi to raise funds for research and accumulating the latest infrastructure.

IIT Delhi released the fee circular on 14th November 2018. The fees for the full-time Ph.D. students has gone up to Rs.19,650 from Rs.10,000. Similarly, the fee for Master of Science-MSR and M.Tech has been increased to Rs.53,650 from Rs.27,100 for students enrolled in the 2018-19 academic year. There has been no change in the fee for foreign students.
Many students enrolled in postgraduate and research courses in May 2018 have already paid the fees in accordance with the existing fee structure. These students will be required to pay the revised fee for the second semester in January. The second round of admission will begin in December and students will be charged the hiked fee for Ph.D. and MSR courses.
Rao also informed that IITs depend on the government for financial aid or grants, as they do not have the autonomy to revise the fee structure in B.Tech programmes. With the IoE status, IIT Delhi is free to revise fees for masters and research courses.
To keep up with the IoE tag, IIT-D will require funds for infrastructure and research projects. The institute will have to look for all the revenue generation models for the institution so that they do not have to revise the fee structure.
