IIT Gandhinagar saw a growth in the number of companies visiting the campus at placements 2016. About 80 companies participated in the institute’s placement drive. The institute also got recruiters from government agencies and PSUs.
The first phase of campus placement has been fruitful for the institute and more companies are expected to visit in the next few months.
Indian Space & Research Organization, Bharat Dynamics Ltd, Bharat Electronics Ltd, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd, and Gujarat State Fertilizer & Chemicals Limited are the eight government organizations that recruited from IIT Gandhinagar in 2016.
The institute is in talks with DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organization) and other similar organizations to join the hiring process. The institute also expects some international offers for the first time.
Over 40% B.Tech students have been placed at IIT Gandhinagar in the first phase of placements. The placement season started in October and is expected to continue till March-April 2017. Students graduating in 2017 are expecting more offers in the coming placement phases.
Faculty and Head-Career Development Services (CDS) Gaurav Srivastava informed that eight PSUs have visited the campus so far and more are expected to come. He also said that some flourished start-ups have also shown interest in recruiting the talented youth of the institute.
Students now understand the dynamics of working with start-ups and 27 of the students have also opted for deferred placements in 2016. Some of these students also plan to start their own startups while others plan to go for higher studies.
