Indian Institute of Technology, located in Goa has begun the task of building an independent pool of faculty members. The premier engineering institute started functioning in 2016. In 2017 alone, five new faculty members have joined the IIT, and two more faculty members are expected to join by December 2017.
IIT Goa has been heavily reliant on faculty from its mentor institute, Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. In 2016, over 15 faculty members from IIT Bombay were engaged at IIT Goa. Later, IIT Goa had seven new appointments independently, including two appointments on the contractual basis. Appointing more faculty members on its own will reduce the dependency of the institute on IIT Bombay.

Director of IIT Goa, Mr. Barada Kant Mishra pointed that the recruitment of faculty on a permanent basis could be possible only when the best talent is available. Earlier, IIT Goa had initiated the process of recruiting at the Assistant Professor level. Recently, the institute has begun the process of recruiting for the post of Associate Professor and Professor. The new appointees are expected to join the next semester, said Director - IIT Goa.

In 2016, IIT Goa began to offer engineering courses in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and computer science with an intake of 30 each. In 2017, the student count/ intake of the institute have been doubled to 180. The sanctioned strength of faculty members at IIT Goa is 45, and the institute is still reluctant to recruit senior faculty members due to lack of additional facilities and laboratories.
