IIT Guwahati Alumnus Tops IES Exam in 2017

  • Namit Jain of the civil engineering discipline topped IES 2017, whereas, Idul Ahmed of mechanical engineering topped in 2016.
IIT Guwahati Alumnus Tops IES Exam in 2017

Graduates of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati have gained praises for the institute once again. An alumnus of the IIT Guwahati topped the Indian Engineering Service (IES) exam, leading the institute at the top for the second consecutive year.

A graduate of the 2015’s Civil Engineering batch, Namit Jain, secured the first position in the IES examination 2017 in his discipline. The exam is conducted for four disciplines including mechanical engineering, electronics and telecommunication engineering, civil engineering and electrical engineering.

In 2016, another graduate of IIT Guwahati, Idul Ahmed, secured the first position in the IES 2016 exam in the mechanical engineering discipline. According to a press release released by the institute, this is the second consecutive year that an IIT Guwahati graduate has topped the IES exam.

The topper for mechanical discipline in the IES 2017 exam was Lohit Kumar Yadav who pursued his B.Tech in mechanical engineering from Ramdeobaba College of Engineering and Management (RCOEM).

The results of the IES examination 2017 were declared on September 11, 2017, by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

According to the notification on the official website of UPSC, a total of 500 candidates have been recommended for appointment on the basis of the exam. These students belong to different disciplines.

According to the notification, 258 candidates have been shortlisted form the civil engineering discipline, 135 have been picked from mechanical engineering, 59 graduates have been selected from electrical engineering and another 48 have been selected from the electronics and telecommunication discipline.
