IIT-Kharagpur Alumni Returns to Village; Enters Politics to Help Locals

IIT alumni, Nihar Ranjan Beura quit his job and successful career to contest in the rural body polls for Dumuka gram panchayat of the Kendrapara district of Odisha. 50-year old Beura has decided to work for social causes in order to transform the life of the villagers.

Beura informed that he filed his papers for the nomination of panchayat samiti member on January 17, 2017. He studied Industrial Engineering and Management at IIT Kharagpur and pursued his M.Tech degree from the institute.

Beura has worked for some of the biggest multinational companies in various countries including US, France, UK, Germany, Denmark and Netherlands. He has now started a dairy farm in his village and provided pure milk at affordable rates to the villagers.

Beura hails from Dumuka and wants to devote himself to the development of his ancestral village. He also provides career counselling to the youth of the village who are looking for jobs and employment opportunities. Beura is quite popular amongst the village and the locals hope that he will serve the community better.

Beura lost his father and brother in the 1996 cyclone. He was raised by his mother and worked hard to complete his education. After having worked for some of the greatest organizations of the world, he decided to come back and help his village grow.

Residents of the village are also of the opinion that the community will not grow unless educated people participate in politics and eradicate corruption.
