The two-day convocation ceremony of the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) concluded on September 24, 2017, at Dikshant Bhawan. On the second day, 1013 Ph.D. scholars and PG students were awarded degrees. In a first, the management of IIT Roorkee decided to organise the convocation ceremony for two days from this season.
Addressing the students at the convocation ceremony, Professor Surendra Prasad pointed that students must come up with new ideas that provide scope for innovation. Students must make use of science and technology in a better and judicious way so that they are able to learn from their mistakes and failure points which will ultimately help them in imbibing the desired qualities through the process of innovation.
Prof. Surendra Prasad further added that technology is a product that has evolved from human spirit. He advised the students to work and come up with the innovative ideas in the areas of housing, transportation, food security and health with the help of technology.
During the IIT Roorkee Placements, over 246 companies visited the campus to recruit eligible students and made a total of 1,167 offers. Among them, there were 80 first-time recruiters. Overall, the salary package offered by the companies were attractive.
Apart from that, this year, IIT Roorkee students are expected to receive 130 Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs) by the end of November. So far, the institute has received 92 pre-placement offers out of which 82 have been accepted. The highest pre-placement package stood at Rs. 28.16 lakh per annum this year. With the maximum number of pre-placement offers, IIT Roorkee stood in the second position out of all the seven older IITs.
