IIT Roorkee Convocation Ceremony: 2,000 Degrees Awarded

Over 2,000 students were awarded with graduation degrees during the 19th annual convocation ceremony of IIT Roorkee. It is for the first time in the history that 300 students are awarded Ph.D degrees.

Over 2,000 students were awarded graduation degrees during the 19th convocation ceremony of the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee. President Ram Nath Kovind was the Chief Guest for the occasion and awarded prestigious award to nine meritorious students during the event.

For the very first time in history, IIT Roorkee awarded 300 students with Ph.D degrees. Three PhD students received the award under the Engineering and Science category.

Pulkit Singhal, B.tech, Mechanical Engineering, received the President Gold Medal for having the highest Cumulative Grade Points Average (CGPA). Hrituraj Singh, B.Tech, Electrical Engineering, was awarded the Institute Silver Medal for having the second-highest CGPA. Tanvi Verma, B.Tech, Engineering Physics, received the Institute Bronze Medal for having the third-highest CGPA.

Sumit Kumar Yadav, B.Tech Student, Electronics and Communication Engineering Department won the Director Gold Medal for the best all-rounder. Shivam Jindal, B.Tech Student, Computer Science, and Engineering Department, won the Gold Medal which is named after former President Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma for his outstanding contribution to the field of social service.

Professor NP Padhy, Chairman Convocation, IIT Roorkee informed that around 2,029 students were awarded degrees in this year’s convocation. Out of the 2,029 students, 1,018 were graduation degrees, 702 post-graduation degrees and 309 PhD degrees.

The marathon convocation started with the degree conferment ceremony at 10.30 am after which the undergraduate degree award ceremony began at 2.30 pm and the postgraduate award ceremony at 6.30 pm.
