IIT Ropar was established in 2008 with an aim to produce world class engineers so that they can establish themselves in the higher echelons of any field they venture into. The institute started its programme with offering B.Tech. in three mainstream engineering disciplines

- Computer Science & Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering.
Right now the institute is operational at the transit campus at Rupnagar in Punjab. It is around 45 km away from Chandigarh. IIT Ropar excels in myriad fields of study at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. In May 2017, the sixth batch of the institute graduates and it is a matter of great pleasure for the institute.
