July 26 is celebrated as Kargil Victory Day and July 27, 2019, marks the 20th anniversary of 1999 Kargil War where Indian Army ousted the Pakistani forces. This year, Maharashtra Skill Development Minister, Sambhaji Patil-Nilangekar announced that ‘URI – The Surgical Strike’ film will be shown to students across all the districts of Maharashtra. Single screen theatre and multiplexes are booked for over 225,000 high school and college students.
URI will be projected in 497 cinema halls and multiplexes across Maharashtra at 10 am in 36 districts. However, only one screen in every multiplex is booked for this show. Nitin Datar, president of Cinema Owners & Exhibitors Association of India said that this is a good move to inspire the students to join the armed force by showing their sacrifices during the Kargil War. He added that this movie will also teach students how to not surrender and fight with difficult situations in life.

All the film owners and service providers and owners agreed happily to show the movie to the students and referred it as a patriotic gesture. However, some theatre owners have objected as they have reservations and tickets shows of some shows are already sold out. They have also questioned whether the government will excuse or reimburse the electricity bill cost and GST that will be imposed on free shows.
