The Divisional Bench of Karnataka High Court has initiated its third hearing on KCET 2022 ranks and repeaters issue today. KCET matter has been listed as Serial Number 64, and the hearing took place at Court Hall Number 2. Honorable Acting Chief Justice and Honorable Justice Vishwajith Shetty heard the plea. In the previous hearing that took place on September 19, the bench directed the state government to come up with a solution that will benefit both KCET 2022 repeaters and fresher students.

Karnataka Government's Proposal on KCET Ranks 2022

Here is what the government proposed as a solution for KCET 2022 ranks -

  • KEA has released a normalized score of repeaters and fresher students separately 
  • This year, 1,44,491 fresher students appeared for KCET 2022, and 24,085 repeater students appeared
  • KCET 2022 scores have been normalized out of 100

  • For repeater students, 6 marks from Physics out of 100, 5 marks from Chemistry and 7 marks in Mathematics will be deducted from the qualifying exam score and then a 50:50 weightage will be implemented
  • The seats in various IT-related courses will be increased by 10% to safeguard the interest of repeater students

Karnataka Government filed a petition in Divisional Bench of Karnataka High Court challenging the single judge order on awarding 50:50 weightage for repeater students at par with fresher students. The government was not satisfied with the order and felt that this order will be unfair to 1.75 lakh fresher students. For example, if repeater students were given 50:50 weightage, they will occupy at least 64 ranks in the top 1,000. All eyes are on High Court’s hearing today and students are curious to know what kind of decision the court is going to deliver.
