Supreme Court took up the hearing on the urgent petitions seeking GATE 2022 postponement on February 3, 2022, at 10:30 AM. A bench led by Justice DY Chandrachud took up the plea for a hearing. The apex court dismissed the plea seeking the postponement of the exam and confirmed that the exam will be held as usual. Last year, despite the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, the GATE exam was conducted as per the schedule. This year, the third wave is severe in February, and the experts have confirmed that the cases count will reach its peak in February & March. Recently, a few students have approached the Minister of Law & Justice to look into the matter regarding GATE 2022 postponement.
IIT Kharagpur has already issued a travel pass and admit card. On the other hand, the exam authority clearly indicated that the entrance exam will be conducted with all Covid-19 norms. Several other competitive exams like UPTET were also conducted in January amid the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.
