Legal Education Committee (LEC) of Bar Council of India (BCI) has given permission to four colleges in Maharashtra to offer law courses for the academic session 2016. However, the BCI has laid certain conditions that the admissions to these colleges are valid only if the colleges fulfil the prescribed norms in the stated time by the Council.
LEC od BCI has approved the following colleges:-
- GJ Advani College, Mumbai
- KC College
- Jitendra Chauhan College, West Mumbai
- Government Law College (GLC), Mumbai
According to the sources, BCI has imposed fine to ten other colleges which did not receive the council’s recognition to offer law courses. All these colleges come under the ambit of the University of Mumbai. Earlier, around 40 colleges were derecognized by BCI as these colleges failed to meet the basic norms like inadequacy of teaching staff and classrooms. All these colleges had been under ‘no-admission list’ since 2013 as they did not have proper student-teacher ratio.
