Addressing the graduating students and gathering, Mr. Venkaiah Naidu laid emphasis on training for doctors so that they can become more sensitive to the sufferings of patients. Young doctors must serve at least two to three years in rural areas before considering promotions for them, he stressed.
Venkaiah Naidu advised the graduates to be abreast with the latest methods and modern trends in their fields of specialisation. There is a necessity to focus on disciplines such as community and family medicine to promote comprehensive health care for people of all ages in communities and families, he expressed.
Expressing his views on the existing medical education curriculum in India, Venkaiah Naidu indicated that the government has been constantly upgrading the syllabus by including the latest developments and methods of treatment. More medical colleges must come up in India to avoid dearth of physicians, specialists and nurses. The biggest challenge is to overcome the acute shortage of health providers and health infrastructure in rural areas, he concluded.
