MBA in Hotel Management is focused on the services provided in the tourism industry while MBA in Hospitality Management pertains to the administrative functions in hotels, restaurants etc. In order to understand more about the two courses, let’s take a look at the courses in detail below and the parameters which differentiate the two.

MBA in Hospitality Management

MBA in Hospitality Management is a PG course which has to be pursued by the aspirants after doing graduation in any stream. This course is all about the administrative functions in a hotel or restaurant or related work areas. Candidates will also have to appear for any of the popular management entrance exams such as CAT/ XAT/ MAT to get admission in MBA in Hospitality Management.

MBA in Hotel Management Vs MBA in Hospitality Management: Key Differences:

To find out more about the two courses, it is important to know what are the major differences between the two, which has been highlighted below:

Area of work

MBA in Hotel Management aims at developing the managerial qualities required for working in the hotel industry and managing the day-to-day operations. On the other hand, an MBA in Hospitality Management is focused on the administrative functions in hotel, restaurants, events, business development, casinos, nightclubs etc.

Scope of Employment

To find jobs in Hotel Management for various posts such as manager, candidates need a few years of experience in the same field whereas candidates who have pursued MBA in Hospitality Management can find entry-level jobs without experience. Hotel Management entails working exclusively in the hotel industry or travel and tourism sector and you can find opportunities in resorts, hotel chains and restaurants. When it comes to hospitality management, since you won’t be just restricted to the hotel industry alone, you can work in various departments such as operations, marketing, finance, HR etc.

Roles and Responsibilities

The responsibility of those employed in the hotel management industry is to ensure that guests enjoy their stay and it involves taking care of all their activities since the time they check-in and till they check out. Housekeeping, travel desk, room service, concierge, guest service etc have to be taken care of by the hotel manager. Hospitality Management also involves taking care of the guests but the setting is different. Hospitality managers are responsible for meeting foreign delegates and making sure that all their needs are being taken care of.

After looking at the points mentioned above, we can say that hotel management is operations-oriented as the hotel managers are usually responsible for making sure that all the departments in the hotel run smoothly. So, a hotel management degree imparts training on how to manage all these departments. Hospitality Management, on the other hand, is all about people management and the idea is to make sure that the guests are happy with their experience at an event, hotel, venue, etc.
