The Nagpur University has been in the news recently for banning admissions in its 129 affiliated colleges and courses which also included engineering. The academicians and educationists of Nagpur University have warned students and asked them to thoroughly check the credentials of colleges before applying for admission in them.
They have advised students to give preference to colleges that have received top grades from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The students seeking admission in engineering colleges should ensure that the college has been accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA).
As per the academicians, students should opt for institutions that are old and reputed like Vasantrao Naik Government Institute of Arts and Social Sciences, GS College, Ramdeobaba College, etc.

Recently it came to light that out of the 494 colleges of Nagpur University, 389 were operating without accreditation from NBA or NAAC. These colleges lacked regular teachers according to the norms of the University Grants Commission (UGC) apart from lacking in infrastructure and some other facilities.
The former Pro- Vice Chancellor, Maheskumar Yenkie, explained the importance of NBA and NAAC and said that India is a signatory of the Washington Accord that was signed by 15 countries for the course of engineering, including the UK and US. Students who complete graduation can move to the universities of these countries directly and pursue their higher studies and vice versa. The only condition is that the syllabus of the colleges should match. The NBA and NAAC look after this condition and ensure that the syllabus is up to date.
