National Institute of Technology (NIT) Patna has been ranked eighty-seventh in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking list of the best engineering colleges in India.
The National Institute of Technology – Patna was ranked at the 21st position amongst the 30 National Institutes of Technologies across the country.
The National Institute of Technology Patna (NIT Patna), was formerly known as Bihar School of Engineering (BSE) & Bihar College of Engineering (BCE). It was a public engineering institute that is located in Patna in Bihar state. The college was renamed as National Institute of Patna, by the Government of India on 28th January of the year 2004. The college is an autonomous institute that functions directly under MHRD (Ministry of Human Resource Development) i.e Government of India.
The college is the second oldest engineering institute of India, and the origin can be traced to the year 1886 as a survey training school & subsequent renaming of the institute as Bihar School of Engineering in the year 1900. The graduate level education was introduced in the year 1924 and the college was again re-christened as Bihar College of Engineering in the year 1932. The college was later upgraded as National Institute of Technology in the year 2004. The college was upgraded as the REC – Jamshedpur the only regional level college in Bihar went to Jharkhand after partition.
