Dr. Amrita Dass, a prominent career counsellor has held the poor teaching in government schools accountable for the main reason behind the dismal performance of the government schools. She said that this has happened as there are malpractices behind the appointment of teachers. Thus, many teachers fall behind the standard of teaching required in secondary and intermediate levels. There is a culture to illegally appoint proxy teachers with who have no qualification by the teachers with a small part of their salary plays a significant role behind the poor quality education in UP Schools.

One reason is the lack of accountability. The infrastructure of teaching is not enough in many government schools which results in the ignorance of the best teaching practices.

Prof. Rakesh Chandra of Lucknow University linked the matter with the cast and class of the students. He claimed that the wards of higher caste and wealthy class go to private schools. He added that on the other hand, the government school teachers do not have proper support in terms of supervision and infrastructure even though they are paid much higher than the private school teachers. Also, private schools do not follow the ‘No Examination’ policy under the right to education (RTE ) act. Under this policy, the weakest students are also promoted in the higher classes. This practice is not present in private Schools.

Nina Shrivastava, the secretary of UP board has said that steps will be taken to deal with the shortcomings in the education system in government schools as the state government is determined to increase the quality of the state government schools.
