O.P. Jindal Global University Hosts an International Conference

In a three-day international conference hosted by OP Jindal Global University, Gandhi’s ideology was articulated to address over 100 youth leaders that were present at the conference.

More than 100 youth leaders from around the world attended a three-day international workshop hosted by O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU). The ‘World Youth Conference on Kindness’ brought together a number of leaders and experts of young age from across the world for the pursuit of peace with the help of Gandhi’s ideas.

Through the practice of non-violence, truth, kindness and compassion, Gandhi’s ideas were once again emphasised during the conference at O.P. Jindal Global University. In the conference, the ideology of non-violence (that helped transform societies and create sustainable peace) was articulated to address the present leaders and experts.

The Founding Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor C. Raj Kumar took the stage at the conference to address the audience. Talking about Mahatma Gandhi in his opening remark, the professor said that a person can inspire a nation or the whole world even after she/he is gone. He added that in order to achieve real changes in our society, our education system needs to exemplify Gandhi’s learnings in people’s daily lives.

Drawing a comparison of kindness, professor Kumar talked about the concept of a traditional African philosophy called ‘Ubuntu’. The African philosophy signifies that all humans share a common bond through which, we all interact, discover and own our qualities. He called the philosophy a hope for humanity.

Explaining the concept of African philosophy as the theme of the conference, Professor Kumar said that the quality of Ubuntu enables all humans to emerge as stronger beings by making them resilient. With his optimistic attitude, the Vice-Chancellor expressed his faith in the youth to be able to face and defeat dehumanising values with valour and find kindness in everything that surrounds.
