Rs. 4135.85 crore and Rs 463 Crore spent on 22 IITs and 19 IIMs Respectively

The Central Government has invested a huge amount of money on education in the academic year 2015-16.
Rs. 4135.85 crore and Rs 463 Crore spent on 22 IITs and 19 IIMs Respectively

The Central Government has invested a huge amount of money on education in the academic year 2015-16. Rs. 5621.37 crore has been spent on 40 central universities and Rs. 4135.85 crore on 22 IITs. Whereas the expenditure on 31 NITs and the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur came out to be Rs. 2577.65 crore.

The above data was provided in a written response to the Rajya Sabha sent by Mahendra Nath Pandey, Minister of State for HRD.

Indian Institute Science (IISc), Bangalore was also granted with Rs. 120 crore and Rs. 463 crore was invested on 19 IIMs. Rs. 550 crores have also been spent on 6 Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research.

To the question asked regarding the Central University of Himachal Pradesh, HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar replied that there are 108 sanctioned posts of lecturers and assistant professors in the university out of which 57 are vacant.

Mahendra Nath Pandey in another intimidating response said that there are 10,328 technical institutions in India as per the report of the session 2015-16. More than 20 lakh students are enrolled in these institutes. He also said that only 125 institutions in 2015-16 and 106 institutions in 2016-17 have filed for closure.
