SSC CGL Recruitment Exam 2022 for 20,000 jobs to be held only in Hindi & English, Pro-Kannada Groups demand exam to be held in multiple languages. Should it be made multilingual?

Should SSC CGL go Multilingual for 20,000 Jobs

SSC CGL 2022 exam is being conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) in English and Hindi languages only. Kannada groups and citizens are urging to go multilingual to fill the 20,000 posts through the SSC CGL exam. Kannada groups have alleged the Union government stating that the centre will do anything to keep Kannadigas away from Indian government posts.

The language bar erupted once again in the state of Karnataka after the Karnataka Government released a comprehensive Kannada development bill. The schedule of SSC CGL was released in different departments, organizations, ministries, of the Government of India, constitutional bodies, and tribunals to fill several jobs in Group B and Group C. The Kannada Development Authority (KDA) is asking Union Government to conduct all exams under the National Recruitment Agency in various regional languages including Kannada.

Arun Javgal, a pro-Kannada activist stated that “This exam used to be done at the Zonal level but it has been centralized now. There are thousands of students who are very good at their studies but they would have studied in their mother tongue. They are at a disadvantage if the exam is in just English and Hindi. We are not asking for special treatment,”.

Adding to this, In October 2021, the IBPS Clerk exam was held in 13 regional languages along with English and Hindi for public sector banks (PSBs). It happened after the huge protest by the southern states to hold exams in other Indian languages.

“The notification says selected candidates may have to learn the language of the state they are posted in. It doesn’t mandate the candidate to learn the local language. This makes it difficult for local people when they visit central Government offices, and staff can’t speak the local language,” said Arun.

What's your opinion? Should SSC CGL 2022 go multilingual?
