SPJIMR Redesigns its PGPDM Course for a Post COVID World

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s SP Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR) has redesigned its postgraduate program in Development Management (PGPDM), which began in 2011. It has also started the admission process for the program’s 20th cohort. After 11 years and 19 cohorts, the programme has been modified and redeveloped with a greater emphasis on wise innovation and change management for sustainable development, after observing the recent impact of COVID on society.

The programme was introduced in 2011 when Indian businesses were looking at getting huge grants and CSR funds to meet their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) goals.

The executive management programme has a duration of 12 months. The primary agenda of the programme is to develop leaders who would contribute to the social development sector, which encompasses NGOs, the CSR function of corporate organisations, foundations, and social enterprises. The leaders will be provided training so as to work on addressing the challenges of poverty, inequality, and other socio-economic problems. The programme fees vary depending on the sponsorship- for corporate or international NGO sponsored candidates it is Rs. 3,00,000, while for self-sponsored or other NGO candidates it is Rs.1,50,000.

An essential feature of the new structure of the course is that it combines the effectiveness of online learning with networking and forming relationships through face-to-face interactions. The program is modular and allows students to continue working at their current organisation. It comprises 30 courses that are delivered over six contact periods of not more than two weeks each. The first and last contacts have been scheduled on the SPJIMR campus in Mumbai. The remaining four contacts will be delivered through the online platform on weekends and weekdays. Upon completion of the course, participants become part of SPJIMR’s global alumni and join a larger community for sustainable social innovation conducted by SPJIMR’s Center for Innovation in Sustainable Development.
