With an objective to meet the demand for qualified and skilled IT and automotive professionals, Savitribai Phule Pune University has come up with a unique initiative of launching two M.Tech programmes which will suit the needs of IT and automotive industries.

Earlier, the varsity had announced that it would launch job-oriented postgraduate courses for its students. It has been successful in keeping up the promise. For this purpose, the varsity has made an agreement with Quickheal Technologies and KPIT to offer M.Tech programmes in IT and Automotive Technologies.

The courses are set to begin from January 2017, and around 40-60 students will be admitted to each course. The candidates who are selected for the programme will receive funding from both the companies.

Dean of Faculty of Technology, Dr. Aditya Abhyankar revealed that the two new M.Tech programmes received an approval from the academic council of the varsity. The proposal for launching the programme in IT was made by the IT partners of the varsity. Today, there is a need to adopt digitisation which paves the way for ‘Digital India’ initiative. To be able to cater to that, IT industry needs skilled and talented professionals in the current scenario. Hence, the varsity has tied up with Quickheal Technologies to design and deliver this specialised course.

On the other hand, a course in Automotive Technology is being launched in collaboration with KPIT to meet the demands of skilled and talented professionals in the automobile industry. So far, Automotive Technology is one of the subjects in an engineering course, and there is no specific programme for it. Hence, the varsity decided to launch an exclusive programme in Automotive Technology.
