Telangana with Lowest Number of NAAC-Accredited Colleges

A survey came out with the fact that the newly formed state of Telangana has the lowest number of NAAC accredited colleges in south India. The NAAC accreditation is considered to be one of the most essential requirements to become eligible for certain government schemes, seeking for autonomy and running several courses, projects, funding under Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) etc.

Telangana has a total number of 168 colleges which have been accredited by NAAC and its quite an alarming factor. Low count of NAAC accredited colleges in Telangana emerged out as a threat when the higher education department has been continuously encouraging colleges to seek for autonomous status and NAAC accreditation.

Telangana boasts of having the highest number of colleges per lakh population, but out of which, 90% of the colleges are still to get their accreditation. Much to the surprise, the neighbouring states of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu holds the second and the third place in the list of highest number of NAAC accredited colleges in the country with the numbers of 642 and 506 respectively. States like Andhra Pradesh and(242) and Kerala (210) have a higher number of NAAC accredited colleges. Mumbai tops the chart with a total number of 1140 “A” grade institutions and accredited colleges.

St. Ann’s College for women, College of Defense Management, Guru Nanak Institutions Technical Campus, St Pious X Degree, Aurora’s PG College (MCA) and Vallurupalli Nageswara Rao Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering and Technology are the colleges which fall in that list.
