In response to Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi's mission on digitalize India and make our country, a smart one, Poornima Institute of Engineering & Technology, Jaipur, took the initiative to held The Smart City Convergence 2016 on April 08- 09, 2016 with a view to providing a forum for deliberations by experts, academicians, research scholars and students to look into various issues and come out with ideas and strategies that may solve or mitigate many of the problems we face in the city.

Three national conferences organized in conjunction with the Smart City Convergence 2016 were:

  • National Conference on Smart Computation & Technology, NCSCT 2016
  • National Conference on Smart Energy and Communication, NCSEC 2016
  • National Conference on Smart Infrastructure and Environment, NCSIE 2016

The convergence was supported by Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), The Institution of Engineers (India) and The Indian Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ISHRAE).

Prominent people who joined the Convergence 2016 were:

  • Mr. Ashwani K Goel, CEO, and Founder, Intecons Software Labs Pvt. Ltd. Jaipur
  • Dr. Dr. S. M. Seth, Chairman, Poornima Foundation
  • Dr. Vishnu Srivastava, Chief. Scientist, CSIR-CEERI, Pilani
  • Mr. R. K. Vijayvergiya, Additional Chief Engineer, Directorate of local Bodies, Govt. of Rajasthan,
  • Sh. Shashikant Singh, Director General, Poornima Foundation
  • Dr. Ajay Kumar Bansal, Director, PIET, Jaipur
  • Mr. Puneet Mathur, Organizing Secretary,The Smart City Convergence 2016.

Dr. Dr. S. M. Seth, Chairman, Poornima Foundation had presided over the inaugural function. The convergence received an overwhelming response from academicians, researchers, and students. Out of 500+ full papers, 207 papers were accepted after the blind reviews by the experts.

Out of 207, 196 papers were registered for the convergence:

  • 43 papers were selected for NCSCT 2016,
  • 78 papers were selected for NCSEC 2016
  • 75 papers were selected for NSCIE 2016

The 2 days event was well attended by over 500+ delegates. Seven experts from academics and industry delivered the keynote addresses. The discussions were focused on discussing the ground realities of Indian Cities, Smart concepts with reference to various engineering branches, some case studies, and guidelines. These thought-provoking sessions led to immense interactions from the participants who posted many questions to the speakers in these sessions. The convergence also hosted 20 technical sessions including 5 sessions of NCSCT 2016, 7 sessions of NCSEC 2016 and 8 sessions of NCSIE 2016.

Topics that were covered in NCSCT 2016 were:

  • Smart 2 Technologies for Smart City
  • Information & Communication Technique (ICT)
  • Big Data and Analytics
  • Green Computing
  • Sustainable Computing and Communications
  • Security and Risk. Renewable Energy,
  • Smart Grid, Smart Trends in Power System,
  • Smart Communication Systems
  • Nano Electronics & Photonic devices

In NCSIE 2016 topics like Smart Infrastructure/Building, Smart Transportation and Smart Environment were covered. The conference papers were presented in these 20 Technical Sessions. Significantly in all the three national conferences 196 papers were actually presented. The Technical sessions were chaired by eminent academicians from MNIT, Universities, Industries and other reputed organizations. The queries raised by the session chairs were also addressed by the paper presenters.

The technical session chairs, in their concluding remarks at the close of the sessions, gave their general impressions and provided guidance to the researchers as to how they could bring about improvements in their research work. To showcase the final year projects of B. Tech students, Project Exhibition was held on the first and second day of the conference. All the invited guests and participants visited all the student projects. Invited guests appreciated student’s efforts and suggested the improvements in the projects.

All the keynote Addresses and the Technical Sessions were arranged in such a manner that there was no overlapping, thereby enabling all the participants to attend them and get benefitted. Proceedings of the conference were provided to all the participants in CD format and the same will be published in the two journals. The conference concluded with bringing out clarity on smart city amongst participants. At the conclusion the deliberations during the various sessions of the conference were insightful and as per feedback received from the participants they have been immensely benefited by attending The Smart City Convergence 2016.
