The new ‘Life Skills’ curriculum developed by the University Grants Commission (UGC) has included topics such as Pranayam, Yoga, Social Media etiquettes, Proper Usage of Google, etc. The UGC has recently launched the life skills UGC curriculum named Jeevan Kushal. This curriculum has been developed to improve the students’ communication skills in verbal and non-verbal modes of communication and developing their intellectual and emotional compensation. The course will comprise 8 credit points to be achieved in any semester.
A senior official of UGC told PTI that writing on social media is as important as written or spoken communication in the traditional format today. The social media is a good way of communication but the students must learn the proper usage of the tool including pros and cons. He informed that there are some etiquettes one should follow while using social media, the students will be taught those as well including proper use of google search for information finding. He added that due to the lack of communication training, the students do not know the difference between a resume, a curriculum vitae (CV) and a bio-data. They will be taught these to help them thrive in the professional world of today’s needs.
Personal and professional skills like empathising with colleagues for improving interpersonal relations, networking and negotiation skills, building a good personal image for a positive impact on career besides professional and personal moral codes of conduct are the parts of the newly introduced Jeevan Kushal curriculum.
