BMTC Bus Conductor Clears UPSC Service Entrance Exam

BMTC bus conductor has cleared the UPSC Civil Services entrance exam by studying 5 hours daily after working for 8 hours as a bus conductor. He will now appear for the interview on 25th March. 

BMTC Bus Conductor Clears UPSC Exam

Madhu NC, a bus conductor working at BMTC has just set a benchmark by clearing the UPSC Service Exam. He will now appear for the interview on March 25, 2020. Madhu is currently working with BMTC and is the first person in his family to get an education and it's a matter of pride for his family. Madhu cleared the preliminary examination in June 2019 and the results for the same were announced in the month of October. After clearing the examination, he started focusing on the preparation of UPSC Mains. The 29 year- old had to study General Studies (divided into three parts), Ethics, Language, Political Science & International Relations, Maths and Essay Writing. In addition to this, he added International Relations and Political Science as optional subjects. Madhu gave his Main exam in English while preliminary exams in Kannada.

The financial condition of the family forced Madhu to start working at the age of 19. He started working as a bus conductor after clearing his school examination. He also completed his post-graduation and graduation degree in distance mode. Currently, Madhu is a master degree holder in Political Science. He worked for around eight hours a day in a taxing job where he has to handle tickets, jostle with crowds and ensure there are no travellers without a ticket. After clearing the interview, he decided to quit his job as a conductor and follow the path of becoming an IAS officer. He was guided by the managing director of Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation, C Shikha. According to Madhu, Shikha provided him with important tips for clearing the exam and now she is guiding him for clearing the interview for two years every week.

Madhu said he appeared for the Karnataka Administrative Services(KAS) entrance exam in 2014 but wasn’t able to crack it. He then started preparation for the exam again and this time he cleared it. He shared his experience as he used to study for 5 hours daily before and after work. Madhu didn’t sign up for any coaching classes for the preparation of UPSC Service exam. He preferred to study on his own with the help of youtube videos and experiences of the previous year toppers. While answering about the preparation of the interview, he said that he is very confident he will clear the interview.
