What is a Good Score in CLAT 2024?

Are you curious to understand what is a good score in CLAT 2024 that will help you get into a top NLU? Go through this article to find out the good score in CLAT.

What is a Good CLAT score

What exactly is a good score in CLAT 2024? How much should I score to get admission to the top NLUs? What marks can guarantee the best law colleges through CLAT? These questions often boggle the mind of a candidate as there is no clarity available on what is the ideal CLAT score for getting into the dream law college. Candidates who want to pass CLAT 2024 should study hard and aim for the highest possible score. But what does a good CLAT 2024 score look like? While preparing for the CLAT 2024, candidates should be aware of it. The candidates may be able to comprehend the trends for each NLU in terms of rank by looking at the cut-offs from the previous year. This would not provide students with much information regarding the marks needed for admittance to top-ranked NLUs, though. To get clarity, it may be useful to examine CLAT scores, the associated rank, the number of seats available at each NLU, and changes in college preference.

youtube image

NLUs tend to release CLAT cut-offs in the form of ranks and no corresponding marks are specified for the same. For instance, if a candidate has made it to the merit list of CLAT by securing 42nd rank in the CLAT exam, his/ her marks are not mentioned alongside which makes the score unclear.

What exactly is a Good Score in CLAT 2024?

CLAT 2024 is in 3 days and before appearing in the exam, students should have an idea of what should be a good score in CLAT 2024. Every year the number of students appearing in CLAT is increasing. As a result, the CLAT cutoff is also increasing with each passing year. Admission to NLUs is done based on the score obtained by the candidates in the CLAT exam. CLAT 2024 aspirants who want to get into top NLUs should aim to score high marks so that they can clear the cutoff. Securing admission into top-ranked National Law Universities gets tougher as students need to achieve top rank in the merit list. To get an idea of the cutoff score trend, CLAT aspirants should check previous years’ cutoff scores. This will help them to understand the cutoff requirements in the NLUs. Those aiming to get into top NLUs like NLU Bangalore or NLU Hyderabad should try to secure a score above 100. On the other hand, candidates who get around 94 to 98 scores can be sure to get into NLU Kolkata, NLU Jodhpur or NLU Bhopal.

Relation Between CLAT Rank and CLAT Score

All the participating institutes in CLAT generate separate category-specific cutoffs for every course that they offer. The cut-off mentions the ranks of the aspirants who are eligible for admission to the college. It does not display the marks scored by a person. However, it is expected that the higher the score, the better the rank.

CLAT cut-off depends on various factors such as the total number of candidates, seat intake, the difficulty level of the exam, the category of the individual, and the performance of the applicant. For example, if the difficulty level of the exam is high then the cut-off marks and score are likely to go down and vice versa.

The table below shows the correlation between CLAT rank and marks for CLAT UG. Go through it to get an idea of the score requirements for the corresponding rank.

Important Points Regarding CLAT Score

The table provided above highlights a few important points. Some of them are as follows.

  • If a candidate scores between the range of 150 - 200, he/ she can probably take admission to any desired law college that accepts CLAT scores. The chances of getting into the individual’s preferred college will increase.
  • If the aspirant manages to score in the 130 - 150 range, he/she will still be in the position to take admission to one of the top National Law Universities. However, since the category of an individual also has a role to play while opting for NLUs, no assurance can be provided about whether or not the person will end up getting the college as per the first preference or not.
  • If an individual scores marks in the bracket of 90 - 110, the chances of getting admission to the top NLU reduces. The reserved category candidates might get admission to the desired law college.
  • If an applicant falls in the 70 - 90 mark range, the chances of getting admission to NLUs are less. Such individuals will get a rank between 4610 - 11683 and there are only around 2500 UG-level seats in NLUs. Having said that, there are plenty of top-notch private law colleges in India that accept CLAT scores that candidates can think of.
  • Candidates who score 50 - 70 or below 50 marks are very less likely to get through the NLU admission process, barring a few exceptions. Due to the reservation policy of NLUs, reserved category candidates still have a chance of getting admission to a National Law University.

Good CLAT 2024 Score

General category candidates must fix a target score of around 110 and above in order to get admission to the top NLUs. Reserved category students must keep a goal of scoring 90 and above in CLAT in order to get admission at an NLU.

It should be noted that the score might increase or decrease depending on the changing exam pattern and cut-off factors mentioned before. For instance, for the year 2020, the exam pattern was completely changed. The maximum number of marks an aspirant can now secure is 150. In such a scenario, the target score also decreases. If the difficulty level of the exam is average, then an applicant can set a target of scoring between 100 - 120 to get one of the finest NLUs. If the difficulty level of the exam is high, then a score between 80 - 100 would also be enough to get admission to an NLU.

What is a good score in CLAT 2024? - Important Conclusions

According to the information above, applicants must receive a score of at least 110 to be considered for admission to any of the top 5 - 6 national law schools. The likelihood of getting into a top-ranked university increases with higher grades. Candidates who receive a score of less than 80 may be placed in NLUs with lower rankings. Here are a few key ideas that applicants should be aware of when looking through the anticipated cutoffs.

  • Domicile reservation is now offered by the majority of national law universities. Candidates should therefore take their residence status into account while selecting a national law university.
  • This year, NLSIU Bangalore has 180 seats instead of the previous 120. This implies that more applicants will be admitted to the university and that the cut-offs will adjust correspondingly.
  • Candidates need to get a good score in the CLAT 2024 exam as last year, after the first three rounds of counselling, no students from the general category who scored under 74 had their names on the list. Students should be careful in their exam preparation as the marks are the ultimate standard for admission. General category candidates will face difficulty in getting admission to the National Law University if they score less than 74 or 75. However, candidates who fall under the domicile category or qualify for some sort of reservation can still be eligible to get into one of the NLU if they score less than 75.
  • The Consortium of the NLUs releases separate cutoff lists for the SC, ST, OBC, EWS, and domicile categories depending on the applicants for each category and the number of seats provided by the NLU. However, CLAT aspirants should keep in mind that the seats will be allocated based on the category of the candidates. For instance, a general applicant needed to achieve at least 103.5 in the CLAT to be admitted to NLSIU Bangalore. In contrast, SC and ST category applicants were successful in obtaining admission to the same university with CLAT scores of 73.75 and 68.25, respectively.
