The Education Department of Maharashtra is in plans to conduct an entrance exam for FYJC admissions, and student & teachers’ feedback has been asked on the same. The Education Department asked teachers and students to fill a Google Form expressing their opinion on whether FYJC admissions to be conducted based on entrance exam or Class 10 merit. So far, almost 3 lakh responses have been received by the Education Department out of which 66% favoured an entrance exam for FYJC admissions. Over 19,000 schools across the state have submitted their response so far.
Even though conducting an entrance exam for FYJC admissions is a good idea, this can’t be implemented for 2021 admissions, as most of the students are not prepared for such kind of assessment. On the other hand, the Class 10 exams 2021 in Maharashtra have been cancelled, and conducting an entrance exam for 2021 FYJC admissions might not be the best option. If the government wants to conduct an entrance exam, it has to inform students at least six months in advance, as students will start preparing for the entrance exam.
With the current Covid-19 second wave situation, the entrance exam for FYJC admissions may not be implemented for the academic session 2021-22. However, students will need to wait for few more days for an official update. The admission process for first-year Junior Colleges is expected to begin in July.
