Dear student,

In order to pursue a doctorate (Ph.D) in law, you must first check if you meet the eligibility criteria for the course. There are many Ph.D courses in India and law is among the most popular programmes of the degree. To enrol in Ph.D in law, you must have a postgraduate degree in law like LL.M (Master of Law) or M.Phil in Law. Without one of these degrees, you will not be considered eligible for the course.

It is essential for you to have scored at least 50 to 55 per cent aggregate marks in your qualifying postgraduate or M.Phil degree in law and you must have obtained the degree from a university that is recognised and approved by the BCI and the UGC. Additionally, you might also have to appear for an entrance exam for Ph.D admission in your desired college.

Candidates are selected for the doctorate degree at the various colleges offering Ph.D in law in India on the basis of merit in the qualifying degree as well as the candidate's performance in the entrance exam. If you need assistance in finding the best law college for yourself, fill the Common Application Form (CAF) which will give you the option of applying at multiple colleges. You will also get the assistance of an admissions expert.
