Polytechnic college in Kolkata

Hi, I have completed Class 12 in Science stream. And I want admission in a government polytechnic college in Kolkata. So, how do I get the best rank in JEXPO exam for admission in good college? And also tell me which engineering stream will be the best option - Mechanical engineering, Civil engineering, Chemical engineering or Textile engineering?

Dear student,

I. How to Prepare for JEXPO:

Make your Maths Strong:

When it comes to preparing for JEXPO (Joint Entrance Examination for admission to Diploma courses in Polytechnic colleges), core Mathematics holds one-third of the importance. The Math syllabus primarily comprises the 10th standard content of the subject. It includes the following broad sections:

  • Arithmetic
  • Algebra
  • Trigonometry
  • Geometry
  • Mensuration

Make a study time-table:

Looking at the syllabus & assessing your weak points, make a study time table. And stick to it.

Basics strong, always:

Mathematics is all about reasoning and applying the basic concepts to arrive at the correct answer.  So ensure that your fundamentals are strong, so that you are able to tackle any question they throw at you!

Practice, practice & practice:

Revise, study and revise again. And give mock tests. This will not only clear your concepts, and make you comfortable with the question paper format, but also help you time yourself, so that on the main day of the exam, you come out with flying colours!

II. From the 4 options that you have mentioned, we will rate the specialisations as under: (in order of preferance)

  • Mechanical
  • Civil
  • Textile
  • Chemical
