Officially known as M.K. Ammosov North-Eastern Federal University and formerly known as Yakutsk State University, NEFU is the largest higher education institution in northeastern Russia. With a history of 75 years, NEFU was established in April 2010 on the basis of M. K. Ammosov Yakutsk State University which was named after an outstanding statesman Maksim Kirovich Ammosov. In 2019, NEFU was ranked among the top 30 universities in Russia according to the international ranking of ARES. The university also entered the world ranking and Golden League of best universities in the world of the Round University Ranking in 2017. According to Global World Communicator, NEFU was ranked among the top 600 universities across the world in 2017. Known to be one of the best universities in Russia for MBBS, the 6-year program is accredited and approved by both NMC and WHO.

Infrastructure, Campus & Courses

Located in Yakutsk, Russia, NEFU has a total of four campuses, the main located in Siberia's Yakutsk and rest located in Chukotka's Mirny, Anadyr and Neryungri. The total area comprises 15 institutes, 9 faculties, 3 university branches, 5 major research institutes; 12 residence halls; a university library consisting 15,00,000 books, periodicals and other items; student canteens; a stadium; swimming pool; and social centre. The university also has a Geology Field Station, Botanical Garden, Orangery and a Museum of Archeology and Ethnography. Of the top, NEFU offers a total of 212 Bachelors/Specialists programs, 125 Masters programs and 93 PhD/residency programs, delivered by 1,465 academic staff, of which 153 hold doctors degrees and 743 have Candidate of science degree.

Accomplishments & Alumni

With an overall undergraduate population of over 16,000 and more than 5,000 postgraduate students, NEFU has implemented successful academic and research programs till date. Among the most renowned alumni of NEFU include a philanthropist, academician and eminent politician Evgeniya Mikhailova, an Olympic boxer Georgy Balakshin and a two time World Champion and multiple international tournaments winner Viktor Lebedev. NEFU is the only institute in the Far East to be part of PJSC Gazprom. In 2019, the university became one of the 10 partner universities of the oil and gas company British Petroleum. The year was also marked by 1 postgraduate student, 3 graduate students and 17 undergraduate students who were granted BP scholarships. In addition, additional financial support from the Russian government promotes the universitys quality of education and higher performance in global rankings.

Student Diversity & Employment Opportunities

NEFU boasts hosting over 18,000 students from 42 regions of Russia and a total of 46 countries from across the world. At present, the university has over 800 international students. NEFU is committed to working with more than 150 partner universities and research centres from 25 countries and expanding its academic mobility and drawing more international students. Every year, over 200 students participate in NEFUs exchange programs and a number of visiting professors from around the globe take part in the process. It also has long-standing relationships with universities in Japan, USA, Canada, Republic of Korea, China, Poland, Switzerland, France, and more.
