New Zealand offers admissions to international students in two intakes, viz. February and July, with only a few courses available in September and November. While international students may apply in either of the two intakes, the July Intake is generally a preferred choice because it allows students to choose from a long list of universities and courses.

Applying to universities abroad is a time-consuming process. It takes almost 8 to 10 months to complete the application process. New Zealand aspirants are advised to start preparing for July Intake in August of the previous year. A detailed timeline is explained below:

August - December 2022: Shortlist Universities

Following these guidelines will help you choose the right colleges for higher education abroad within time:

  • Finalise the course and programme type that you wish to study in New Zealand.

  • Start looking for specific universities that offer the chosen course from August onward.

  • Shortlist a few universities that offer your course of study.

  • Confirm the detailed eligibility criteria, admission process, fee structure, important dates, and other necessary information about the universities at the time of shortlisting.

December 2022 - February 2023: Appear for Exams

Universities require entrance exam scorecards to enrol international students for admission to various study programmes. Both aptitude and English test scores are required to apply for admission at universities. The various types of standardised aptitude or qualifying and language tests include GRE GMAT, IELTS, TOEFL, PTE Academic, Duolingo, etc. Once the universities are shortlisted, you must start looking for which exams to appear for out of GRE and GMAT as well as language skills tests and start preparing for the same as early as possible.

  • Prepare and appear for the test at designated test centres latest by February so that there is enough time to collect the scorecard for uploading at a specific institute.

  • Ensure to prepare well for the tests to score maximum marks in both aptitude and language tests.

February - March 2023: Gather Documents and Apply to Universities

March - April 2023: Accept the Offer

  • Once it is received from the university, identify the kind of offer letter received from the university as a conditional or an unconditional offer letter.

  • Ensure to meet all the terms and conditions in the. Accept the offer in the guided timeline.

  • Some universities may ask you to make an initial tuition fee payment to confirm admission. In such a case, make a payment and receive the payment receipt.

  • If there are any pending documents, ensure to submit them to the university before the specified deadline.

April - July 2023: Apply for Student Visa and Education Loans
