Nurses play a crucial role in shaping the health policy, managing patient and health systems management, promotion of a safe and healthy environment and eventually promoting long-term health of a population.

As Virginia Avenel Henderson, an influential nurse, said, a nurse has the unique function to assist a person, sick or well, in their performance of activities that promote health and recovery that they can otherwise perform without help.
