GRE Test Centres in India

The GRE is available at more than 1,000 test centres in more than 160 countries. It is offered as a computer-delivered test year-round at most locations around the world. After registering for the test, candidates will be able to view the nearest test centre and also the seat availability at a given test centre.

GRE is one of the biggest and the most common examinations for admission to Graduate schools abroad such as Massachusetts Institute of TechnologyStanford UniversityKing's College, London, and more. 

GRE COVID-19 Update

GRE test centres have also started to open across India. However, in areas where test centre testing remains limited, candidates can take the test at home. All of the GRE test centres are following procedures and regulations to reduce the risk of spreading the virus.

Updated GRE Test Centre Procedures Amid COVID-19

All protocols adopted by ETS are aimed at keeping candidates and others healthy and slow the spread of Coronavirus. Given below are the GRE test centres procedures put in place due to the pandemic:

  • Candidates must bring their own mask, or else they will not be allowed to enter the test centre. Depending on the test centre and local policy, candidates may have to wear it some or all the time at the test centre. 

  • One will have to remove the mask to have their photo taken in order to check to their identity. 

  • All GRE test centres undergo frequent cleaning of high-touch surfaces. They also provide disposable wipes so that students can wipe down their testing area.

GRE Test Centre Procedures and Regulations

There are several test centres and regulations that apply at times at the test centre. Find the same in detail below:

  • The candidate must be at the test centre for at least four and a half hours.

  • One should read and sign the confidentiality agreement at a given test centre agreeing to all rules and regulations.

  • A scratch paper may be provided during the test, which shall not be used before the test or during breaks. 

  • The test centre is subject to video recording.

  • Personal calculators will not be allowed. Candidates can access the on-screen calculator while attempting the Quantitative Reasoning sections.

  • No personal items other than ID documents will be allowed inside the test centre. This includes any phones; tablets; all wearable technology; all watches; and any other electronic, recording, listening, scanning or photographic devices. 

What to Bring to GRE Test Centres?

Candidates must bring valid and acceptable identification each time they report to a test centre. 
In case candidates fail to bring a valid and acceptable ID, or if the name on your ID does not exactly match the name on their registration, they will not be permitted to take the test. All ID documents must include name, photograph and signature to be held acceptable.

Each ID document must:

  • Be an original document and photocopied documents will not be accepted. Documents presented on a cell phone or any other electronic device will also not be accepted.

  • Be a government-issued national/state identification card that is recognized in India.

  • Be valid. Expired documents (bearing expiration dates that have passed) are not acceptable.

  • bear your first and last name exactly (excluding accents) as it was when registering for the test

  • include a recent valid photograph

  • include your signature that matched with name on the ID document.

ID Verification for GRE

ID verification at a GRE test centre may include:

  • Biometric voice and photo identification

  • Video recording

  • Signature comparison

  • Fingerprinting/thumbprinting
