How to Register for IELTS?

Candidates planning to take the IELTS exam must read the detailed registration process before going through with it. The registration for IELTS exam can be done either in online mode or offline mode.

Online registration can be done through the official website of IELTS. The payment for the exam can be made through either a Debit or Credit Card. Online registration is the most prefered and convenient method of completing an IELTS registration, however, the offline registration process option is also available.

Offline registration can be done by visiting the nearest IDP Education India Pvt Ltd offices and filling the form in person. Steps to Register for IELTS

For those looking to appear for the IELTS exam in 2021, here are the steps for IELTS online registration process that must be completed.


Step 1: Visit the Official website of IELTS India

To register for an IELTS test online one must visit the official website for IELTS India and go to the registration section. The direct link for IELTS India official website has been provided below.

Step 2: Select the Type of Test, City and Date

On the IELTS registration page, select the appropriate IELTS test like IELTS CBT or IELTS PBT, choose the IELTS test type i.e IELTS Academics or IELTS General Training and then move on to selecting the preferred city for taking the test and view the available test dates.

Step 3: Confirm the Test Date

Based on the availability of the test slots, choose the preferred test date and time slot. Once the date and time have been selected, confirm the terms and conditions and proceed with the registration process.

Step 4: Add Personal Details

Under the personal details tab add details such as the name, date of birth, a valid email ID, contact number and ID Document Number and proceed.

Step 5: Add Registration Details

After personal details are added proceed by adding registration details like the address, educational qualification, reasons for taking the test etc.

Step 6: Upload Documents

Once personal and registration details are added, you will be asked to upload the first and last page of your passport. It is mandatory to hold a passport to appear in an IELTS test. The size of the document should not be more than 1MB and it must be saved in JPG, JPEG, PNG or PDF format.

Step 7: Select Recognised Organisation

In this step, you can select the list of organisations or universities where you want to send the IELTS scorecard. The scorecard will be sent directly to the selected institutions from the test centres. However, this step is optional and candidates can opt to skip form selecting the institutes.

Step 8: Review the Application

Once the details of the above-mentioned steps are added, the candidate must review the entered details and make the necessary changes before finally submitting the application.

Step 9: Make Payment

In the last step, the applicant must make the payment for their IELTS registration and submit the application.

IELTS Exam Fee

Included in the registration process, all candidates are required to pay the IELTS exam fee. Candidates need to pay Rs 14,000 to complete the registration process for an IELTS test. The payment can be made through any one of the following methods:

Online Registration: Online payment using credit or debit card or net banking.
Offline Registration: Offline payment can be done by the following method:

  • Sending Demand Draft (DD) in favour of "IDP EDUCATION INDIA PRIVATE LIMITED, New Delhi". DD must be from a list of approved banks, listed on the official website for IELTS.

  • Cash can also be deposited at different ICICI or Allahabad bank branches. The deposit slip can be downloaded from the IELTS IDP website or collected from the nearest branch of IELTS IDP.

Note: In case the payment is done offline, the deposit slip must be uploaded within the IELTS application form.

IELTS Rescheduling or Cancellation

An IELTS test can be cancelled or rescheduled under certain terms and conditions. Here are the conditions under which a candidate can cancel or reschedule the IELTS exam.

1. Request for cancellation or rescheduling of IELTS Test

The applicant who wishes to cancel or reschedule the IELTS test must request for the same by writing a letter and attaching a proof of payment at the following address:

 2. Request for Transfer of Test Date (IELTS PBT)

The request for the transfer of test can be made by submitting the “Transfer, Cancellation Application Form”. The form must reach the centre at least five weeks prior to the original date of the test.

The next date will be allocated based on the availability of date and time and after confirmation by the centre.

3. Request for Transfer of Test Date (IELTS CBT)

The request for transfer of an IELTS CBT test can be made by submitting the “Transfer, Cancellation Application Form” and must reach the centre at least three weeks prior to the original test date.

There is an additional charge that the applicant will be asked to pay to postpone the IELTS CBT test, which is finalised at INR 3330.

4. Refund of Amount

In case an IELTS test is cancelled, the amount will be processed and refunded to the candidate within 30 days from the date of the original test.

Candidates will have to provide basic details like their name, age, educational qualifications, address, email ID, contact no. etc at the time of IELTS registration and upload a copy of their passport along with a recent photograph.

6. How to reschedule an IELTS Test?

All candidates can reschedule their IELTS test by sending in a request form to the IELTS office. There will be additional charges for reschedulingthe test. The request form must reach the IELTS office at least three weeks prior to the original test date.

7. I need to cancel IELTS. Will I receive the refund?

If you cancel your IELTS test more than five weeks before the test date, you will receive a refund after deducting the administration charge.

8. How long does it take to take to receive the refund in case IELTS is cancelled?

The refund amount is processed and sent to the candidate within 30 days from the date of the original test.

9. What additional charges are charged for rescheduling the IELTS Test date?

An additional charge of Rs 3330 need to be paid by candidates to postpone their IELTS 2021 test.

10. How to apply for IELTS Indicator?

Visit the official IELTS British council website. Under the IELTS Indicator section, select the book now option, select country, test date and register.
