Each section on the TOEFL is scored on a scale of 0-30, which are then added together for a total score of 0-120. Further, the score range is broken down into 4 or 5 proficiency levels to measure the candidate's proficiency for the skill accurately. There is, however, no passing or failing score for the TOEFL as it entirely depends on the university or agency and their own score requirements.
Considered one of the top global English language proficiency tests, the TOEFL is scored only by a centralised scoring network. Scores of the test, which remain valid for two years, are released within 6 days after taking the test. While ETS allows candidates to specify the institutions to recieve their respective score cards before sitting for the test, they can also send additional score reports after taking the test.
Over 11,000 institutions in more than 10 countries will accept the TOEFL 2021 scores. Some of these universities include Chester University, Dublin City University, Auburn University, University of South Florida and George Mason University.

A TOEFL score report includes individual scores of the four sections as well as a total score. Here are the different scores that a candidate will see in a TOEFL 2021 score report:
Each section - reading, listening, speaking and writing, has a score range of 0 - 30.
The scores of each section are added to get a total score of 0 - 120.
Each section has 4 or 5 proficiency levels, therefore, each candidate is scored according to the levels specified below:
Below Basic (0–9)
Below Low-Intermediate (0–8)
Below Low-Intermediate (0–3)
Below Basic (0–6)
ETS has not set any passing or failing scores for the TOEFL test. Each institution sets its own TOEFL score requirement, individually for each course, which a candidate must meet in order to be eligible and obtain an unconditional admission offer.
A TOEFL test is never scored at the test centre but only under a centralised scoring system. While the Speaking and Writing sections are scored by a combination of multiple highly-trained human and AI evaluators, the Reading and Listening sections are scored by computer.
All evaluation procedures have been designed to ensure consistency and a true reflection of the abilities of the candidate and do away with the bias of a rater that may be possible in face-to-face interviews.
Through ETS Account
After approximately six days of taking the test, TOEFL scores will be made available to the candidate on the official websit, for which an email will be sent to the registered email address. Candidates can access their account online or through the official TOEFL app.
The same scores will be considered valid for two years. TOEFL test-takers can download and take a print out of the TOEFL 2021 scores for future references.
A TOEFL candidate can also request a printed copy of their score report before sitting for the test. Their TOEFL 2021 scores will be mailed within 11 days from the date of taking the test, although delivery times may vary according to the candidate’s address.
