The situation is now improving with universities getting more applications. However, 12% of institutions still said that they did not receive many applications.

The increase in the number of applications for the academic year 2022-23 was widespread among 76% of Masters Colleges and Universities, 68% of Community Colleges, 51% of Liberal Arts Colleges and 73% of Doctoral Universities.

The report which was based on 559 institutions found that 89% of those institutions had most of their international students on campus. More than half of them claimed that all their international students were physically present there. This is a significant development from last year when only 8% of international students were physically present on campus.

The report also observed that 96% of the institutions are presenting campus learning to their prospective international students while the options of distance learning are only limited to those who have visa and travel restrictions due to Covid-19.

Organisations have forecasted that the USA remains behind their global education competitors because of their post-study work opportunities and dual intent where students have to prove during visa application that they will return to their home country after studies.

The report also shed light on the adaptive and flexible support of US universities toward their Russian and Ukrainian students. 248 institutions have students from Ukraine whereas 307 have Russian students. 56% of the institutions that had partnerships with Russia, have cancelled them amid the war crisis.

All these activities combined to increase the number of applications in the USA.
