The All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) has asked the heads of all its affiliated universities and institutesto consider Ukraine-retuned Indian students for the vacant seats availableand enrol them at relevant levels.
The technical education authority stated in its letter that as everyone is aware that approximately 20,000 Indian students have returned to the nation from war-torn Ukraine. It further said that a majority of them were either pursuing medical orengineering and technical courses at various Ukrainian universities.

Such students are in "deep desperation" since their educational/academic future in Ukraine is still unknown, and it is the future of tens of thousands of Indians that should not be overlooked, the AICTE said.
The issue was brought up in the parliament, and it was proposed that the Indian government should make all educational opportunities available to all Indian students who still want to pursue their studies in India.
According to the AICTE, institutions should assess such instances against vacant seats available in corresponding years and admit them at appropriate levels so that students returning from Ukraine can resume their studies in India.

S Jaishankar, External affairs minister, told Lok Sabha, that India is working with Ukraine's neighbouring countries Romania, Kazakhstan, Poland and Hungary to look at ways to help the evacuated medical students.
