The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) has started its application process for the academic year 2020-21. The UGC (University Grants Commission) has collaborated with the German government to enable the students enrolled in any university of India to work on cooperative research projects mainly in humanities and social science. This news was announced in the official notification that was released by the agency. All students who are interested in applying can send their applications at firstname.lastname@example.org latest by August 4, 2020. They can do so via the college or university in which they are enrolled.
Applications are invited by everyone for this fellowship. Apart from students, university professors, researchers, doctoral students, and postdoctoral researchers can also apply for this scholarship. DAAD and the UGC will consider the application only if a parallel application has been submitted by the Indian and German partners. Students from both India and Germany will be working on a similar project or technology. A project which will be approved by both the agencies will be jointly funded for a tenure of two years.
The funds of the scholarship will cover the exchange visits to partner institutes which will include all expenses related to mobility and hospitality. The scientists will be permitted a visit of 30 days every year and the doctoral students will be allowed 50 days a year. A total of four visits by both German and Indian participants will be funded.
Apart from this, an amount of 89 euros a day will be given to the Indian students for their stay in Germany for a visit of 30 days and 54 euro per day will be given for visit of 1-22 days. They will get a lump sum of 1,200 euros for 23 days and 40 euros per day for 31 - 50 days.
While applying for the scholarship, students will be required to send an original hardcopy proposal that is duly forwarded by the head of the institute to the UGC along with a soft copy that will be sent via email. As per the rules, if a case arises in which a student completes their his/ her degree course at an institute before completing the project, the project will still be continued and the universities will have to ensure that by giving it in writing.
