Four Indian-origin Students get Selected for Truman Scholarship

A statement released by Truman stated that four Indian-origin students have been selected as Truman Scholars amongst 58 aspiring public service leaders. The scholars will be awarded USD 30,000 to fund their postgraduate studies and receive benefits like leadership training, career counselling and employment opportunities.

Four Indian-origin Students get Selected for Truman Scholarship

Four Indian-origin students in the USA have been selected as Truman Scholars 2022 amongst at least 58 aspiring public service leaders from 53 universities and colleges, according to a notification by the scholarship provider's website.

The four Truman scholars are Amisha A Kambath, Eshika Kaul, Avi Gupta and Bhav Jain.

An official statement released by Truman stated that the scholars will be awarded USD 30,000 to fund their postgraduate studies, including leadership training, career counselling and special employment opportunities within the country.

Among the Indian-origin scholars, Amisha is from California, studying social studies and economics at Harvard University, and Eshika from New Jersey is studying economics and peace and justice at Wellesley College. While Avi is based in Oregon and studies political science (American history) and computer science (AI) and Bhav is from Pennsylvania, with a keen interest in global health care delivery and transforming clinical care as a future physician-policymaker.

The Harry S. Truman Foundation's Executive Secretary, Dr Terry Babcock-Lumish said they have full confidence that these 58 new Trumans will work together to meet their generation's challenges efficiently.

Terry, who is also a 1996 Truman Scholar from Pennsylvania, paying tribute to the foundation's president for over twenty years, Secretary Madeleine Albright, added that the 2022 Truman Scholars have reflected America as an "innovative, purposeful, patriotic problem-solver, never shying away from a challenge."

The Truman Scholarship is awarded to aspiring public service leaders in the USA and to college juniors with outstanding leadership potential, committed to careers in government, nonprofit or advocacy sectors, education or public service. It was established by the US Congress in 1975 as a living memorial to President Harry S. Truman and a national monument to public service.
