Planning to Study in Germany? Expect a Delay in Issuance of German Student Visa

With the rush of applicants and the increase in the number of students wishing to study in Germany, the German ambassador Philipp Ackermann has stated that the issuance of German visas may be delayed for students joining in the upcoming semester.

However, Germany is not the only country where Indian citizens and prospective students have been facing challenges in getting visa approvals. The surge in the number of visa applications, after the Covid-19-based restrictions were eased, has led to such delays across different countries.

Ackermann, in his statement, acknowledged the disappointment caused due to the delay and that the country also wishes to issue visas as quickly as possible, however, is not able to do so, which has become a big concern.

Due to these delays, some students are not expected to receive their visas before the commencement of the semesters this year, Ackermann pointed out. However, Ackermann has also urged the students to reach out to their respective universities in Germany and make them aware of the situation, urging them to put the blame on the German Embassy.

In addition to this, Ackermann also revealed that “the German embassy and consulates are working towards a quick and smooth issuance of visas. He added, “I think by the end of this year, we should be back to normal.”

According to news reports, the German authorities are connecting with the university to alert them of the situation. He stated that they acknowledge the “deficiency” they are in and are keen on healing the process quickly.

However, while there are delays in the issuance of the applications, Ackermann noted that “some agents are very good at the falsification of documents”, which has led to 10-15% of the student visa applications being discovered as fraudulent. Due to this, it becomes extremely important to thoroughly screen the applications so that only deserving students are able to study in Germany.

In his statements, he pointed out the hike in the number of visa applications from Indians, which has overwhelmed Germany. The growth in the number of applications is a pleasurable change that Germany is happy to see as Indian students are performing well in Germany.
