MEA Extends Help to Indian Students Unable to Study Abroad Due to Covid Restrictions

In a move to help Indian students enrolled at foreign universities but currently stuck in India, MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi took to Twitter to offer help and ask them to contact their OIA-II Division at the given email ids.

MEA Extends Help to Indian Students Unable to Study Abroad Due to Covid Restrictions

The Ministry of External Affairs has asked Indian students enrolled at foreign universities to get in touch with their OIA-II Division if they have been unable to cross Indian borders due to Covid-19 restrictions or facing similar issues.

In a move to alert such students, MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi, on June 5, wrote the same on Twitter, beginning the tweet with “Kind Attention!”. In addition, Bagchi shared email addresses at which students facing such problems could contact.

Indian students who were facing Covid-19 pandemic restrictions and mobility issues can email their contact information including email ids and mobile numbers to OIA-II Division, at the following emails: so1oia2@mea.gov.in and us.oia2@mea.gov.in.

This came after a number of international students started facing problems due to Covid-related travel restrictions imposed by several countries.

A good number of students enrolled at international universities across various countries have been stuck in India due to border closures and other Covid-19 restrictions. Some of these students have been studying from their home countries and waiting for things to get back to normal so they could return to campus.

Notably, reports say that Indian students who have received Sputnik V or Covaxin vaccine are being asked to get revaccinated upon arrival in various countries as both the vaccines await approval of the World Health Organisation (WHO).
